Great Question! THE SEER is an acronym that stands for Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating. What that means to you is the higher the SEER rating the more cost efficient it is to run your air conditioner. In many cases what it also means is that when the unit has maintenance issues it is more expensive to repair the unit. The current industry standard for installing new heat pumps or straight air conditioning condensers in 14 SEER and the we can normally changeout a 2 Ton 14 SEER heat pump for $3800.00.

Preventive maintenance is key to keeping your HVAC system working at it's optimum performance level, while reducing the chances of a untimely breakdown. Central Air cleans your coils to provide the best air flow possible and inspect all your operating components...capacitors, fan motors, compressor, contactors, defrost boards, thermostat, ductwork to ensure all your systems components are working together to get the longest live possible from your heating and cooling system and providing the best comfort at the lowest cost.

I'm asked all the time which HVAC system is better: Heat pump or straight air conditioning with gas heat. My answer is it depends. For the air conditioning side of things the heat pump or straight air conditioning system will cool your home basically the same as-long-as the SEER rating are the same. On the heating side there is a difference. The air that comes out of the supply vents will feel noticeable warmer with gas heat than with a heat pump and with gas heat is your only option for heat. With a heat pump you have backup electric heat strips that will assist the heat pump during very cold weather or that can be used for heat if something goes wrong with the outside condenser. To me it is a matter of what you like. I have found with some older people that they prefer gas heat due to the warmer air flow and the ability to quickly heat the home. I have also found that budget minded people prefer a heat pump to heat with due to the reduced cost over purchasing propane or natural gas. No matter which HVAC unit you choose to heat and cool your home you need to have semi-annual preventive maintenance performed by a qualified HVAC company.

Friends and customers. Please remember to change your air filters every 30 days. We had a service call last week due to the unit freezing up. When we arrived at the home we found a very old air filter was restricting the air flow and had caused the unit to freeze up. Restricting the air flow also makes the unit less efficient and causes additional stress on the fan motor and compressor. Changing air filters every 30 days will save you money in the long run and we reduce the likely hood of costly breakdowns.
